Smart Charging Lab

The EnergyVille 1 building currently has 28 charging points for electric vehicles, many of which can be controlled via a smart system.

These charging points are seamlessly integrated with the EnergyVille cloud platform. This allows valuable data from various sources – such as weather forecasts, energy markets, real-time measurements and historical data from both the EnergyVille 1 building and Thor Park – to be effectively combined.    

Furthermore, users are easily identified via their staff badges, and the platform offers targeted communication via email and web services. This level of integration and communication ensures maximum flexibility and convenience for all users.

What is the purpose of the Smart Charging Lab?

  • In this lab, smart charging strategies can be scaled up from simulation to practical testing. This allows the charging strategy to be optimised to minimise energy costs, CO₂ emissions or grid load.
  • Research into flexibility services for local utilisation within the building:  
    • Avoiding peak grid demand.  
    • Increasing self-consumption from solar panels.  
    • Responding to variable energy prices.  
  • The energy community, for example a business park or residential area: how can charging behaviour and battery potential be optimally utilised to ensure the energy supply for users and minimise the load on the electricity grid.  
  • Balancing Responsible Parties (BRPs).
