Power electronics focuses on the processing, control and conversion of electrical energy. This includes converting electricity between different voltage levels and between direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC).

Research and development in this field is essential for improving the efficiency and reliability of electrical systems. It also plays a key role in integrating renewable energy sources into the electricity grid. 

Advanced Materials and Power Devices 

At EnergyVille, we investigate new materials and technologies for next-generation power electronics. A major research focus is on wide-bandgap semiconductors, such as Gallium Nitride (GaN). We also develop advanced power devices that deliver higher efficiency, improved performance and greater reliability. Over the years, we have built a strong technology portfolio in high-performance power electronics, non-linear modelling and control methods, and protection strategies. 

From Research to Real-World Applications 

Our researchers develop power electronic converters for a wide range of applications: 

  • Low-voltage direct current (LVDC) grids 

  • Electric vehicle chargers 

  • High-efficiency drives 

  • Battery interfaces 

Testing and Validation 

The technologies we develop are tested and validated in EnergyVille’s bipolar DC nanogrid laboratory environment. This unique test infrastructure allows us to evaluate innovative converter solutions under realistic operating conditions and supports our broader research on future electricity networks.
