Thermal systems

Thermal systems are a key technology in the transition to a fully sustainable energy system. They help reduce CO₂ emissions and local pollution, integrate residual energy sources, and unlock energy flexibility. At EnergyVille, we pursue breakthrough innovation in thermal systems through fundamental, applied and industry-driven research

Smarter and More Efficient Thermal Networks

We develop technologies, tools and methodologies that make thermal networks smarter, more digitalised, more autonomous and more energy-efficient. These innovations support the optimal design, control and maintenance of thermal networks in new projects and services.

Advanced Thermal Conversion Technologies

We develop solutions that increase the recovery of residual and renewable thermal energy through efficient, flexible and cost-effective conversion systems. Our research focuses on optimised heat transfer and heat exchangers. We also develop tools for component design and heat pump control that help unlock the full theoretical potential of heat pump systems.

Innovative Thermal Storage Solutions

To better match heat demand with the availability of renewable heat sources, such as solar collectors and PV-coupled heat pumps, we investigate, develop, demonstrate and implement innovative thermal storage concepts.

Our research focuses on:

  • Compact and integrated thermal storage solutions

  • Medium- and high-temperature thermal storage for industry based on packed-bed technology

These technologies help improve system flexibility and support the integration of renewable energy into future thermal networks.
