Outdoor Metrology Lab for (BI)PV
The Outdoor Metrology Lab measures and monitors the performance of solar panels in real-world outdoor conditions.
By exposing 1,000 solar panels to sunlight, wind, temperature and reflection for a year, the lab helps to develop, test and calibrate PV models and predictions for future PV systems.
We use two different setups: a rack on the roof of EnergyVille 1 and a building-integrated (BIPV) façade installation on top of EnergyVille 2.

- Measuring and benchmarking the relationship between energy efficiency and the performance of innovative PV modules (e.g. improved electrical or thermal design).

- Deriving thermal and mechanical parameters for use in buildings.
- Comparing the performance of BIPV (building-integrated) and BAPV (building-mounted).
- Assessing the hygrothermal impact of photovoltaic modules on building structures (and vice versa).
