Medium Voltage Lab
In the Medium Voltage Lab, our researchers test industrial components, sensors and power electronic converters under real-world medium- and high-voltage conditions.
In this way, they assess the performance, safety and reliability of various pieces of equipment before they are deployed on the electricity grid.
With the capability to test both AC and DC at high voltages (in the 100 kV range), the lab offers a comprehensive and advanced testing environment.
Who can use the Medium Voltage Lab?
In addition to research, we also offer consultancy services, training and education, including support with the (re)design of products for various target groups:
- Manufacturers of traditional and smart medium-voltage equipment
- Developers of traditional and smart medium-voltage equipment
- Transmission and distribution network operators
- Research institutions
- Industrial facilities
What is the purpose of the Medium Voltage Lab?
- Generation and measurement of voltages and selected currents on a three-phase system, AC and/or DC.
- Generation and measurement of lightning impulse 1.2µs/50µs.
- Measurement of partial discharge in components and tan delta.
- Pre-certification tests in accordance with applicable standards.
- Selected mobile (off-site) capabilities.
- Hardware-in-the-loop equipment testing with real-time simulations.
- Customised measurements and experimental configurations for unusual operating conditions.
