Battery storage

Exploratory cell concepts

In addition to developing new materials and cell architectures, we explore entirely new battery cell concepts.

New Batteries

This out-of-the-box approach goes beyond conventional powder-based composite batteries and seeks innovative ways to meet the requirements of future applications.

Emerging technologies often require battery solutions with form factors and functionalities that differ from today's designs. Flexible electronics, for example, will require thin and flexible batteries, while the Internet of Things will depend on compact, integrated energy storage solutions.

To address these needs, we investigate concepts such as nano-structured current collectors and thin-film materials. These technologies have the potential to enable new battery designs and functionalities.

We also revisit existing concepts, including lithium-air batteries. Our research focuses on improving their cycling performance and developing more reliable operating mechanisms to unlock their future potential.
