A digital renovation model for all of Flanders

Smart renovation starts with a simple question: where can the biggest gains be made, and which interventions make the most sense? To help answer that question, EnergyVille developed a digital renovation model for Flanders on behalf of the Flemish government.

The model makes it possible to map homes and neighbourhoods virtually, calculate renovation scenarios and support better-informed decisions. It includes both a neighbourhood renovation tool for local authorities and a home renovation tool for the advisory services that support individual homeowners.

In 2025, the first phase of this work was completed. The focus was on validating and refining the underlying algorithms and making the platform more robust. The neighbourhood renovation tool helps local governments roll out renovation policy in a more targeted way, while the home renovation tool supports scientifically grounded renovation advice tailored to individual homes.

In 2025, the project entered a second phase focused on keeping the platform operational and extending it to new use cases, including apartments and circularity. In that way, the digital renovation model is evolving into a tool that can support renovation policy and renovation advice on a much broader scale.
