The energy landscape is evolving rapidly, and Belgium finds itself at a critical juncture. VITO at EnergyVille, in collaboration with five key industry leaders — BASF, ArcelorMittal, Luminus, Elia and Fluxys — would therefore like to invite you to an exclusive event, unveiling the PATHS2050 Platform 2.0 with its most recent insights on energy system scenarios for Belgium.
New insights into a changing world
The past years have been marked by high inflation and soaring energy costs — impacting economic stability and industrial competitiveness. Meanwhile, delays in renewable energy projects, infrastructure and hydrogen deployment — coupled with rising material and technology costs — are raising pressing concerns for the future of our energy system:
- How can Belgium achieve its 2030 climate goals, and where should we be by 2040 to stay on track for a net-zero scenario in 2050?
- What role can and should electrification, hydrogen and CCS play in our future energy system?
- Which urgent infrastructure investments are required to support this transition?

Backdrop
In recent years, EnergyVille has conducted unique research into the optimal way to make Belgium climate neutral by 2050, and this at the lowest possible societal cost.
In the autumn of 2022, we launched our initial findings on our especially established PATHS2050 Platform, for which 200 EnergyVille researchers developed data-driven roadmaps for three different scenarios towards Belgian carbon neutrality.
In the years that followed, VITO at EnergyVille enriched the platform with several sensitivity scenarios – ever-expanding our palette of insights.
