Belgian Renovation Week 2024

Event

The Belgian Renovation Week aims to address the environmental impact of buildings, responsible for 40% of EU energy consumption. The event focuses on fostering discussions, examining policy instruments like the Energy Performance Certificate, and exploring themes such as materials’ role, social innovations, and district-scale energy renovation, with the goal of envisioning a sustainable future and encouraging networking among stakeholders, policymakers, and the public.

EnergyVille/VITO is co-host of the Day 2 session “Innovating Renovations: Pioneering the Future of Built Environment Transformation”, with our EnergyVille/VITO colleague Maarten De Groote moderating both that and another session on Day 2, as well as participating as an expert panel member during one of the Day 4 sessions.

Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union

In the pursuit of a greener and more liveable future, the significance of renovation has emerged as a cornerstone of change. Buildings are responsible for approximately 40% of EU energy consumption and 36% of the energy-related greenhouse gas emissions. Buildings are therefore the single largest energy consumer in Europe. Heating, cooling and domestic hot water account for 80% of the energy that we, citizens, consume. As carbon emissions keep affecting our planet’s health, and the drive for comfortable, energy-efficient homes becomes stronger, the need for creative and innovative solutions is more urgent than ever before.

Belgium invites you to attend this event that surpasses conventional limitations and envisages a sustainable future. The Belgian Renovation Week is scheduled from the 15th to the 18th of January, taking place in Maison de la Poste (Tour & Taxis), Brussels.

The event holds a special focus on European policy makers, recognizing their pivotal role in shaping regulations and standards that can propel the renovation movement.
