Open Thor Living Lab legal entity founded

Genk, 28 May 2024 – The legal entity Open Thor Living Lab was officially founded today.

The Open Thor Living Lab is an initiative of EnergyVille, Stad Genk and Thor park and extends across Thor Park, the New Texas residential area, the Waterschei garden district and KRC Genk. Companies, governments, knowledge institutions and citizens are working together there to accelerate the energy transition by testing new energy concepts and technologies. The backbone of all this? State-of-the-art technology at European excellence.

Earlier this year, the Flemish government announced an investment of 6.5 million in Open Thor, in addition to 3.2 million by the existing Open Thor partners, to realise some crucial pieces of the puzzle. These include an expansion of energy hubs and a DC grid to test new innovations. You can find more info on this in this article. Thanks to this funding, essential state-of-the-art infrastructure will be realised, putting the living lab on the European innovation map and serving as a catalyst for new innovative projects.

The signing ceremony marks a first important milestone for this investment and at the same time marks the next phase in the development of the Open Thor Living Lab. As an independent entity, the Thor Open Living Lab will henceforth contribute to an accelerated energy transition through open innovation, and this in close cooperation with founders EnergyVille, City of Genk and Thor Park NV, as well as the entire local ecosystem.
