New materials for power devices and advanced or new power devices

Power electronics heavily relies on semiconductor switches, which traditionally have been based on silicon. However, the pursuit of new materials and advanced power devices offers exciting opportunities for further improvement. By transitioning to GaN (Gallium Nitride) materials, for instance, these switches can achieve even higher efficiency and faster switching capabilities. The resulting converters are expected to be significantly more compact, smaller, and more efficient overall.

EnergyVille is actively engaged in research to seamlessly integrate GaN switches. The goal is to develop an integrated component that consolidates all the necessary switches for a single converter. Additionally, our research also entails optimizing the component’s packaging to maximize heat dissipation efficiency.
