Power IT Up wraps up with an inspiring closing event in Genk

On May 13, dozens of students, teachers, and industry partners gathered in Genk for the final event of the Power IT Up project – and it was packed with inspiration.
Wait, what is Power IT Up again?
Power IT Up is a STEM project designed to help students and teachers of the last 2 years of high school become more digitally and data-savvy. The focus? Real-life challenges around (energy) technology, sustainability and entrepreneurship – all tackled through hands-on projects with real impact, in close collaboration with companies. No boring theory here, just practical learning that sticks.
Thanks to support from VLAIO, EnergyVille kicked off this unique project two years ago together with partners BrightLab, EducaThor and universities of applied sciences PXL and Howest.
A closing event full of inspiration
In Genk, teams from all over Flanders came together to proudly wrap up their Power IT Up journey. Each team had the opportunity to showcase their project, reflect on their wins and struggles, and most importantly, share what they had learned along the way. Short presentations, inspiring conversations and plenty of idea-sharing made it a celebration of everything they had achieved together.
The event ended with an energetic, tailor-made walk through Thor Park created by EducaThor, followed by a thought-provoking talk from our General Manager, Gerrit Jan Schaeffer, about the energy transition and EnergyVille’s role in it.
Key takeaways
When schools and companies work together, something special happens. Students and teachers are pushed out of their comfort zones and develop skills that go far beyond the standard curriculum. They explored entrepreneurship, worked in teams and tackled real-world challenges with creative solutions.
What’s next?
Together with our project partners, we’re working on making the results of this project sustainable. All tools and ideas developed during Power IT Up will be made available to schools, so they can launch similar learning paths themselves.
