  • EBECS Tool

    EBECS is a tool for giving home owners or tenants comprehensive renovation advice. It combines input from the household on simple questions related to their building and EnergyVille’s expertise on the Belgian building stock. This will lead to an analysis of the current housing situation (the construction, the systems, the people, their behavior and their energy consumption) in order to identify the possibilities for improvement via energy retrofitting and RES installation.

  • City Portal: your building stock repository

    Interactive and smart platform with building data for collective renovation of residential buildings at district, city, provincial and regional level. During 2018, Eandis and Infrax will provide this tool to all cities and municipalities in Flanders as a free service.

    The City Portal is an interactive portal with building data currently focusing on residential buildings. Extension to tertiary buildings is possible with some small adjustments. This portal can be used by several stakeholders. These include, for example, smart city related municipal services, inter-municipal associations, distribution network operators and urban strategy advisors. The portal has been specifically developed for joint data management, planning as well as a roll-out of refurbishment actions and impact monitoring of the implemented energy efficiency or sustainable energy measures.


  • Environmental product declarations (EPDs) for construction products

    An EPD (environmental product declaration) is a standardized way to quantify the environmental performance of a product, process or system and to report on it. EPD’s are based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

    Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for building products help to encourage the demand for, and supply of, construction products that cause less stress on the environment. This happens through communication of verifiable and accurate information on the environmental performance of those construction products, which stimulates the potential for market-driven, continuous environmental improvement. On July 14, 2014 a Royal Decree was published in Belgium describing minimum requirements for the use of environmental claims for construction products and to register environmental product declarations in a federal EPD database. The legislation applies to all construction products offered on the market in Belgium. With this the government wants to combat greenwashing. The legislation is largely based on International standards (ISO 14040, ISO 14044, ISO 14025, …) and European norms within the framework of CEN TC 350 - Sustainability of construction works (EN 15804, EN 15978, …).

  • Smart controller for district heating networks

    Control your district heating networks in an intelligent way, save up to 20% on your peak loads and 10% on operational costs of DH networks. 

    This technology tackles the energy efficiency of district heating networks at district level. The controller is based on self-learning algorithms and will enable to maximize the use of waste heat and renewable energy sources in DH networks. The controller optimizes the consumption of the buildings and districts and the demand of the network and optimally uses the potential of activating the building thermal mass as thermal energy storage system. The technology controls the supply and consumption side (‘demand side management’) of district heating networks and the different components of the energy system (such as storage units, heat pumps, etc.). Three business strategies are included in the controller (peak shaving, interaction with the electricity market, cell balancing or balancing the energy between buildings in districts). Depending on your DH network and operation, one or more of these business strategies can be activated. The controller is developed as an add-on to many existing DH network controllers and SCADA systems and can easily be implemented.

  • Long-Term Energy System Planning

    We assist our business partners in designing a cost-optimal future energy system in terms of energy conversion and energy consumption technologies. System-wide future capital and operating expenditures are minimised while realising pre-defined targets on energy efficiency, low-carbon energy and energy security.

    Based on energy system modelling, we can provide technology explicit design choices for the future energy system. By generating multiple alternative designs in the form of scenarios we support an informed choice on high-capex energy related investments and on smart policy design to govern them.       

  • Latent Heat Storage in Phase Changing Materials

    When a material melts or freezes, a certain amount of energy is absorbed or released at a nearly constant temperature. Melting 1 kg of ice, for instance, sets free as much energy (heating) as is needed to heat the same amount of water with 80°C (cooling). This latent heat of a material's phase change can be employed to store and release heat when needed. In this case we f.e. apply excess heat from solar collectors during the day to freeze a certain compact material. When the heat is required at night, we allow the material to melt and to let go of its energy, in the form of heat. Since different materials have different chemical and physical properties, Phase Change Materials (PCM) technology can address many different heating and cooling requirements.

  • Ultracap systems development

    Ultracaps are electrochemical cells. An operational system requires careful assembly of those cells, inverters and control systems to guarantee safe and dependable operation under all conditions and over long periods of time. This involves selection of components, dimensioning, mechanical design, control system development, thermal testing and ascertaining the appropriate fitness-for-purpose of the overall system. EnergyVille offers a fully-integrated support package to companies developing or acquiring their own ultracap systems. We can support all development activities, from concept to a validated prototype. Depending on the needs, we offer the possibility to carry out one or more support activities separately.
